EnglishThe introduction of the BIC Platform at EDEKA Handelsgesellschaft Südwest mbH (EDEKA Südwest), headquartered in Offenburg, Germany, shows how to clearly define responsibilities, continuously improve the transparency of processes within the company and subsequently optimize them.
"We were convinced by the modular structure and the holistic approach of the BIC Platform. All phases of the BPM lifecycle are supported, so that we can flexibly extend the BIC Platform according to our requirements. In addition, we appreciate the trustful cooperation with GBTEC. From day one, we have not been dealing with a supplier, but with a partner oriented towards long-term cooperation. The dynamic further development of the BIC Platform also gives us the security of having the state-of-the-art BPM Platform in use at all times."

BIC Process Design
EDEKA Südwest trusts in GBTEC and BIC Platform and this trust pays off: Every day, process management saves valuable working time and conserves resources through process optimization and automation.
Faster identification

Automation
of 1,800 processes
Introduction of a modern,
database-supported platform
Automation saved about
750 man hours in importing alone
EDEKA Südwest's previous tool generated a high level of manual effort in the maintenance and administration of the approximately 1,800 processes. Navigation took place via different levels and required a lot of detailed knowledge, among other things due to a limited search function. Furthermore, the evaluation options for the processes were limited to non-existent and further development options were also exhausted. The goal of the project was to improve the methodological and technical support of the approach used at EDEKA Südwest to analyze and optimize processes (e.g., process times and costs) and to enable faster identification and implementation of optimization potential. For this purpose, the existing business process management at Edeka Südwest, which was based on MS Visio and Excel tables, was to be optimized with the help of a modern database-supported platform. An essential part of the project assignment was to transfer the existing modeling to a new technological basis as easily as possible.
The new EDEKA Südwest process portal should be an intranet-based portal built on EDEKA Südwest's documents, processes, IT systems and relevant responsibilities. Every employee should be able to access their processes and work tools. At the beginning of the project, the process diagrams were transferred from MS Visio to BIC Process Design in a partially automated way, which saved about 750 working hours. As part of each process mapping work order, process objectives were individually defined and set in quantitative and qualitative terms. Target and actual data were compared and evaluated using an analysis component created specifically for EDEKA Südwest. The ability to easily evaluate and communicate alternatives when changing processes at EDEKA Südwest based on process scenarios completes the picture. Navigation through the new process model is based on a hierarchical multi-level model that provides ever more detail on the processes. The intuitive operation & user-friendly presentation enables a good process overview.
In the project, the BIC Platform, a future-oriented and functional system, was introduced at EDEKA Südwest. It supports the corporate strategy by making optimization quantifiable, variants comparable and best practice processes easily recognizable and repeatable. On the basis of the process modeling carried out, savings become visible and the cost-benefit analysis of selected processes comes into focus. The system meets the requirements and generates a lot of positive feedback from the different user groups. With BIC Platform, an information platform was created that sustainably increases the quality in workflows and processes and provides a high benefit for all parties involved:
EDEKA Südwest is one of the largest food retailers in terms of sales area (Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as parts of Hesse and Bavaria). Together with around 540 independent merchants, EDEKA Südwest operates around 1,400 stores in the EDEKA, E center, ...nah und gut, Union SB, Marktkauf and Treff 3000 sales channels, including both neighborhood markets and large hypermarkets with a sales area of over 6,000 square meters and a range of more than 50,000 articles. With Offenburg, Ellhofen, Balingen, Heddesheim and St. Ingbert, EDEKA Südwest has a total of five logistics locations with around 220,000 square meters of warehouse space. The company's own production facilities include several meat and bakery operations, a wine cellar, a wholesaler for fish and seafood, and a mineral fountain. Strict controls and certified quality management are also a matter of course for these production operations.
